september becomes may

Two paintings: the lower one, "The Third Season" was painted plein air in September 2006 on dark blue Colourfix paper.  Wiped it off today and now it is a Spring scene, "May."

  1. I love the "re do" Barbara. Its great to save those older pieces and do this. It is a gift when they turn out and your colors are wonderful. The lavenders with the yellow green are wonderful. You can really see how you have grown.

  2. I have enjoyed watching you reinvent some of your paintings, Barbara. It is also very interesting to see how your style has changed over the years and how differently your plein air style can be from your studio style. May I ask why you chose to re-do this one? I do like its newer, looser look but would be thrilled if my own plein airs could have that much expression in them!

  3. I love your evolved style, Barbara - your expression now is so much more intense, personal and BEAUTIFUL than in your earlier works (not that they aren't lovely); there are too many adjectives I could apply. It's very inspiring to me, as you have the courage I hope to find and the results I hope to eventually achieve. I'm still a relative beginner pastel artist, but am truly addicted! Thank you for posting your masterful paintings and blogging advice for enthusiasts like me, who learn so much from your experience and insights. Can't wait to see your paintings and you in person at IAPS! - Andrea Doty, Plymouth, MA

  4. Hi Andrea, I won't be able to be at IAPS but hope you will visit my painting, The Tender Hour. You are fortunate to see the show which I'm sure will be wonderful!
