23 to go

I don't know how I got into this branch thing. Well, yes I do, it started with my painting "Winter" a few weeks ago. Suddenly, as never before, I wanted to paint trees without leaves. This is another view of the  Golden Gardens Park pond in Seattle. And, it is painted over an old painting.

From my art database, I separated out the paintings that I considered mediocre. That gave me a new database with 24 images to be reworked. Now I have 23 to go.

  1. Beautiful! I love the way you've described the branches. I've got a lot of mediocre paintings I should either rework of scrub.

  2. These last few paintings are just gorgeous, Barbara! If you have a chance would you please explain how you decide that one of your works is mediocre? I tend to be brutal when sorting my work but it would be nice to have some guidelines to follow (like not making the decision on a day when nothing is going right!)

  3. Thanks Terry and Donna. Ummm...how do I decide which of my works are mediocre? If after 2 years, I still own it (it hasn't sold) and I don't LOVE it, it is a candidate for rework. If a painting is more than two years old it can't be entered in most shows. And, by that time it has also been in most of my galleries. I just know in my heart which ones don't meet my current standard of excellence.

  4. Thanks Barbara. I have more than a few that I don't love, but I do love to rework!

  5. I love your recent series of painting with bare branched trees -- the lively mark of the branches provided interesting linear complement to the color fields of water or foreground bushes, providing focus to the eye and interest. I've always loved the colors of your pastel paintings, and somehow they have become freer, more expressive and unique!

  6. This is a stunning painting, I especially like the tree near the middle of the picture, about half way up its trunk is the beautiful spot of light that my eye was immediately drawn to. Congrats!
