improvising

I finally figured out a way to keep the pastel dust off of my computer while I view the reference photo on the screen. I set the laptop on a chair, set the chair on my worktable next to my easel.  On the left of the easel is an air filter that (hopefully) is sucking the dust in as I work. The painting on the easel is a beach scene of the Carmel river painted in the Spring of 2010. I unframed it and reworked  95% of it today. See the new "Carmel" below, 11 x 14 inches on Ampersand™ pastelbord.

river side

This little Carmel River side-scene was painted a couple weeks ago before I started reworking old oil paintings. So, no "before" to show you on this one. 8 x 10 inches, oil on panel, click image to enlarge.

dunes four

Another little painting of our unusually cool and windy day on the sandy banks of the Carmel River this spring.

dunes three

The wind sweeps the sand up into berms along the banks of the Carmel river. These paintings reflect the unseasonably cool and stormy weather of mid April this year.

dunes two

Another 5 x 7 inch painting inspired by the sand dunes near the Carmel River. A quick little study to capture the feeling of the place, not the details.
