Ground test #2 seems a little better - less grit. 2/3 cup acrylic gesso + 4 teaspoons marble dust + 1/3 cup water. I applied it to another 8x10 piece of masonite but I think the true test will be when I paint on the mat board.
Hi Donna, I'm using marble dust because it is what I have on hand. I look forward to trying pumice in the future and will let you know as my tests continue.
When you apply the grit mixture, are you trying to get a smooth, even surface or do you enjoy having brushmarks show to add texture? From your photo it looks like an evenly textured surface.
That's a beautiful test painting, Barbara! Do you prefer marble dust to pumice?

ReplyDeleteI want a fine, even surface so I'm applying it with a foam roller - two coats.
